OVER A HAZY DAY IN ANN ARBOR WITH THE TEMPERATURES HEADED UP. TIME NOW FOR OUR PET OF THE WEEK. RYAN McTEAGUE HAS THE LATEST WITH BRANDON. AND WE HAVE A PUPPY THAT’S BEING A PUPPY, RYAN. ABSOLUTELY. WHICH THEY DO. SHE’S A LITTLE SQUIRMY SHE WANTS TO RUN AND PLAY. THIS IS RYE. SHE IS A TWO MONTH-OLD CHOW SHEPHERD MIX THAT IS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION SHE WILL BE A BIG ONE 60 TO 80 POUNDS AS SHE GETS BIGGER. SHE’S NICE AND FLUFFY WOULD EXPECT SOME SHEDDING. AS SHE’S GNAWING ON MY — YOU WANT TO TEACH HER POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT. TYPICALLY I WOULD HAVE A TOY TO REDIRECT HER AT THIS POINT. DID NOT THINK FAR ENOUGH AHEAD TO BRING ONE WITH ME. BUT SHE’S AN ABSOLUTE SWEETHEART. LOVES TO PLAY AND RUN AROUND. ZHE HAVE A LITTER MATE WHO GOT ADOPTED YESTERDAY. SO SHE’S LOOKING FOR HER HOME TODAY. VERY COOL. WE HAD THE LITTER MATE HER BROTHER ON LOCAL 4 NEWS TODAY SUNDAY MORNING. YES, ABSOLUTELY. ADOPTED. SO WE ENCOURAGE TO YOU CALL THE NUMBER ON THE SCREEN 313-872-3400. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Sens. Charles Schumer and Richard Blumenthal announced their new pet project Sunday: legislation aimed at driving down the cost of prescription medications for pets.

At a news conference in Greenwich Village, Schumer, D-N.Y., said pet owners are paying a 240 percent markup when they buy drugs from their veterinarian, 1010 WINS’ Roger Stern reported.

Schumer and Blumenthal, D-Conn, are sponsoring a bill that would require vets to give customers a prescription so they can shop competitively.

Roger Stern reports

“Pet owners would do almost anything to care for their furry or feathered family members,” Schumer said. “But it can often break the bank.”

Schumer said a similar law for optometrists brought down the cost of contact lenses.

“Consumers will be unleashed and liberated from their vets by this bill, which will simply automatically give them a piece of paper that they can take to a pharmacy, to an online supplier and seek better prices,” Blumenthal said.
